You need phantom power to take advantage of the rich, robust sound of condenser microphones. These line powered devices allow the use of remote powered microphones with systems that do not supply phantom power. Each unit features a highly regulated power supply which provides a constant voltage source, even with a heavily loaded input.
Those of you who use sensitive capacitor microphones to record birdsong will be aware of the following problem: the recording itself turned out well but breathing noises or loud explosive noises in some places ruin everything. This makes the take unusable and will either have to be repeated or reworked on the PC which is time consuming. The pop protection filter minimises this effectively from the start. It retards high-acceleration air currents and steep-edged pressure fluctuations through its closely-meshed grille without attenuating the highs of the noises being recorded. A must for every birdsong recording.
