Lindy LSZH Cable Range

Cabling without halogens
Because in a fire the smoke
is the first problem

In a building fire it is rarely the flames that cost the most time — it is the smoke. Cables with a PVC jacket release dense, halogen-bearing (hydrogen chloride) and toxic fumes that make escape routes impassable, cause severe chemical burns and, together with moisture, attack equipment. LSZH cables (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) avoid exactly that. Lindy carries more than 300 halogen-free articles — from Cat.6 to Cat.8.1 and as an HDMI version.

What sets LSZH cables apart from standard cables

LSZH stands for „Low Smoke Zero Halogen“, equivalent to the designation LSOH. It refers to the cable jacket: it contains no halogen compounds and produces considerably less smoke in a fire than a conventional PVC jacket.

The difference matters wherever people are present or expensive equipment is installed — in public buildings, data centres, hospitals and along escape and rescue routes. Electrically the cables behave exactly like their PVC counterparts: same category, same performance, same connector assembly.

  • Halogen-free jacket — no release of hydrogen halides
  • Low smoke density: escape routes stay visible for longer
  • No corrosive residue on hardware and building services
  • Frequently required in public sector tenders
  • More than 300 articles ex stock — Cat.6, Cat.6A, Cat.8.1 and HDMI

Why the jacket material becomes a project risk

Obscured vision, corrosion damage, missing proof in the tender process — three consequences that make the wrong cable expensive.

In a fire nobody can see the escape route

PVC cable jackets produce dense, black smoke. In corridors, hallways and stairwells, visibility decides whether evacuation works — long before the flames reach the area.

The smoke destroys what
the fire has spared

Halogen-bearing fire gases form acid with extinguishing water and air humidity. Switches, servers and building services outside the seat of the fire corrode — the consequential damage regularly exceeds the primary damage.

The tender requires halogen-free cables — now what?

Public clients, data centre operators and hospitals regularly specify halogen-free cabling. Without a matching article in the quotation, the item fails the review.

LSZH and PVC compared directly

Electrically the two variants are equivalent. The difference lies entirely in the jacket material — and only shows in an emergency.

Feature LSZH / LSOH PVC (standard)
Jacket material halogen-free compounds polyvinyl chloride, halogen-bearing
Smoke emission in a fire low dense and vision-obscuring
Release of halogen gases none hydrogen chloride
Corrosion risk for hardware low increased, acid forming with moisture
Transmission performance unchanged, up to Cat.8.1 / 40GBase-T unchanged, up to Cat.8.1 / 40GBase-T
Typical fire behaviour test standards IEC 60754 (halogen content), IEC 61034 (smoke density) not applicable
Recommended for public buildings, data centres, escape and rescue routes, tunnels individual workstations without special requirements

The requirements of the tender and the applicable national building regulations always take precedence. Permanently installed cables are additionally subject to the Construction Products Regulation (EN 50575).

Where halogen-free cabling is the standard

In these environments LSZH belongs in the standard specification — partly to protect people, partly to protect the investment.

The LSZH range at a glance

More than 300 halogen-free articles — sorted by category, from the short patch link in the rack to the 100m run.

Gigabit standard

Cat.6 LSZH

Cat.6 LSZH network cable

S/FTP and U/UTP, 0.3m to 90m, in six colours for port identification. The S/FTP versions are individually Fluke tested.

10 Gigabit

Cat.6A LSZH

Cat.6A LSZH network cable

The largest group in the range: S/FTP, U/FTP Solid Core and Ultra Slim versions for tight patch panels. 0.3m to 100m, 10GBase-T.

40 Gigabit

Cat.8.1 LSZH

Cat.8.1 LSZH network cable

S/FTP in grey, 0.3m to 5m. Designed for 40GBase-T over short distances — the typical switch-to-server link in the rack.

Project quantities

RJ45 S/FTP in packs of 10

RJ45 S/FTP LSZH pack of 10

Cat.7 cable with Cat.6A connectors, 0.3m to 30m. As a pack of ten for fitting out racks or individually in eight colours.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is LSZH the same as LSOH, LS0H or HFFR?
In effect, yes. LSZH (Low Smoke Zero Halogen), LSOH or LS0H (Low Smoke Zero Halogen) and HFFR (Halogen Free Flame Retardant) all refer to halogen-free, low-smoke jacket materials. Lindy lists the articles consistently under LSZH — a search for LSOH returns the same products.
Does LSZH cost me transmission performance?
No. The jacket material has no influence on transmission. A Cat.6A cable with an LSZH jacket meets the same category, the same bandwidth and the same shielding class as the PVC version. Our S/FTP articles are additionally tested individually.
Which CPR or Eca class do the cables have?
The Construction Products Regulation and classification to EN 50575 apply to cables permanently installed in the building. Pre-assembled patch cables generally fall outside this scope. If your tender explicitly requires a Euroclass, we will review the requirement for you and name the matching article — talk to us before ordering.
Is it enough to switch only the visible cables to LSZH?
It makes sense to look at the entire fire compartment. It is precisely the hidden quantities in raised floors, cable trays and racks that determine how much smoke is produced in an emergency. Replacing only individual runs reduces the risk only proportionally.
Is colour coding available for larger installations?
Yes. Depending on the category, the LSZH patch cables are available in up to eight colours — blue, red, black, grey, yellow, green and white. This allows VLANs, floors or security zones to be distinguished directly at the patch panel.
Are larger project quantities available at short notice?
We keep the common lengths and colours in stock; packs of ten are available for fitting out racks. For larger quantities we prepare a project quotation and reserve the goods for your call-off period.
What warranty applies to the cables?
Lindy grants a ten-year warranty on the LSZH network cables. Technical questions are answered free of charge by our support team in Mannheim — also after purchase.
